Title: The "Magic Barrier" and other news from Hamiltonian lattice gauge theory

Date: Thursday 26 February, 11:00

Place: Building 3, Conference room

Abstract:

The Hamiltonian formulation of lattice gauge theories allows to exactly compute dynamical processes in real time. Of particular interest are non-perturbative processes, such as thermalization and color-string breaking. Using SU(2) gauge theory, we show that a certain quantity related to quantum "magic" - the quantum aspects that cannot be efficiently implemented on classical computers - exhibits a peak that coincides with the period of most rapid entropy growth. I will also report recent first results for SU(3) gauge theory including the string-like potential between heavy quarks.
