One of the largest European conference of thermodynamic research, the 14th Joint European Thermodynamics Conference, was organized by the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) and HAS Wigner RCP between 21 and 25 May 2017 in Budapest. It was the first time that this series came to the Eastern part of Europe. There were 152 participant from 33 countries.
Thermodynamics is related to almost all branches of physics and technology and this conference aspires to bring together the methods and concepts of distant disciplines. Therefore a part of the conference was specifically organized in a way that was entertraining both the experts and the inexperts. There the participants could acquaint themselves with 8 particular subjects, e.g. nonadditive thermodynamics, quantum thermodynamics, biothermdynamics or thermodynamics in engineering: every subject was shortly introduced by several invited experts. The consequtive short presentations were followed by a plenary panel question-discussion session, where the different opinions could be contrasted.

Our institution was represented in nonadditive and quantum thermodynamics, by Tamás Biró and Lajos Diósi, respectively.
In this conference has the ceremony of Prigogine prize, which is for a PhD dissertation in thermodynamics, defended in the last two years. In this year the winner was Øivind Wilhelmsen from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, among 25 proposals.
