Abstract:
Low-temperature plasmas ("gas discharges") are weakly ionized gaseous systems formed as a result of collisions between electrically charged and neutral particles. They can exist even at room temperature, as thermal effects generally do not play a role in their formation—hence the classification as "low-temperature." The book presents the characteristics of the basic physical phenomena of gas discharges, the fundamental collision processes and transport of charged particles (electrons and ions), diagnostics and modern modeling methods of gas discharges, some of their applications, as well as an introduction to the physics of dusty plasmas.
