Amorphous chalcogenides in their bulk and thin film forms are an attractive class of non-crystalline semiconductors. Due to their unique physico-chemical, electronic and optical properties, chalcogenide-based materials have a wide range of applications in infrared and non-linear optics, photonics and nanophotonics, ultrafast all-optical signal processing, and optical regeneration, information recording, chemical and biosensing, medicine, etc. In this report, the peculiarities of structural investigation of these materials and the effects occurring during their structural modification, as well as some potential applications, will be discussed.
