Complex Fluid Research

The research group investigates the physical properties of complex fluids using polarizing microscopy, high speed imaging, reometry, electro- and magneto-optics, dielectric spectroscopy and numerical simulations (e.g. discrete element method).

Systems currently in focus:

  • Various effects induced by external fields (e.g. reorienting, instabilities, pattern formation) in anisotropic soft materials (e.g. liquid crystals, ferronematics, polimers), synthesis and characterization of liquid crystals
  • Dynamics of granular materials and suspensions
